About this generator

A real chain from a flat print bed, with nothing to assemble. Good for costumes, props, key rings, plant hangers for light pots, and fidgeting.

How to use

  1. Set the number of links and their size.
  2. Print it flat, as shown.
  3. Lift it off and flex each link once.

Printing tips

  • No supports: the raised bars are short bridges. Turn bridging fan to full.
  • 0.2 mm layers or finer. A clean first layer keeps the links from sticking together.
  • The chain prints in a straight line: links times link length must fit your bed. Print several strands and join them with a key ring for longer chains.
  • Printed chain is for decoration and light loads, not for lifting or towing.

Frequently asked questions

How strong is it?

Each bar is a few millimetres of plastic. It holds keys or a small plant pot, not a person or a vehicle.

Why are the links square?

Square bars print as clean bridges and sit flat on the bed, which is what lets the chain print without supports.
