Slicer settings for beginners

A small set of settings that work for nearly every model on this site.

Start here

The models on this site are designed to print flat on the bed without supports where possible. The default profile of your slicer for your printer and material is usually a good start. These settings are what to check.

Settings that work for most models

  • Layer height: 0.2 mm. Use 0.12–0.16 mm for small text and fine detail.
  • Walls (perimeters): 2 for decoration, 3–4 for parts that carry load, like hooks and brackets.
  • Infill: 15% is fine for most things. Use 30–40% for parts that need to be strong.
  • Supports: off, unless the tool's printing tips say otherwise.
  • Brim: only for tall thin parts or materials that warp.

Strength comes from walls, not infill

If a part breaks, adding walls helps more than adding infill. Also think about direction: parts are weakest between layers, so a hook printed lying down is stronger than one printed standing up.

Read the printing tips

Every tool page has a "Printing tips" section with advice for that model, for example when to change color, which side goes down or which material to use.
