About this generator

The click of a mechanical keyboard, on your keys. You need MX-style switches, the kind sold loose for a few cents each.

How to use

  1. Type one to six letters.
  2. Print the holder and the keycaps as laid out: everything is upside down on the bed.
  3. Press a switch into each square hole from the flat side until it snaps in.
  4. Push the keycaps onto the switches.

Printing tips

  • No supports. The closed back of the holder prints as short bridges.
  • You need MX-style switches (Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh and similar). Clicky ones, usually blue, make the best fidget.
  • Print one cap first and try it on a switch, then adjust Keycap fit.
  • Use 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers for the caps, so the cross comes out clean.

Frequently asked questions

Which switches fit?

Any MX-style switch: 14 mm square body with a cross-shaped stem. Low-profile and optical switches with a different stem do not fit.

Do I need to solder anything?

No. The switches are only used for their feel and sound. The pins sit inside the holder.

The keycap is loose. What can I do?

Lower Keycap fit to 0 and reprint the cap. A tiny drop of glue also works.
