About this generator

A tiny projector: the light shines through the cut-out letters and puts your name on the ceiling.

How to use

  1. Type a name and pick a symbol.
  2. Choose a phone flashlight, an LED tealight or the shade.
  3. Print it as exported: plate on the bed, tube up.
  4. In a dark room, put it over the light with the plate on top.

Printing tips

  • Use dark, opaque filament: light shining through the plastic blurs the shadow.
  • The plate prints on the bed, so the stencil needs no supports.
  • Use LED tealights only, never a real candle.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the shadow?

About the distance to the ceiling divided by the tube height. With a 40 mm tube and the ceiling 2 m away, the text is about 50 times bigger.

Why are there thin bars through the letters?

They hold the inside of letters such as O, A and B. Without them those pieces would fall out.

The shadow is blurry.

Use a longer tube, a smaller light (a phone flash is sharper than a tealight) and dark filament.
