About this generator

The maze isn't decoration: it is the lock. A nub on the inside of the sleeve runs in the groove round the core, so the sleeve can only turn and lift where the maze allows, and it comes off only at the exit at the top. It's a puzzle, not a safe: anyone patient enough can open it.

How to use

  1. Set the card size and the room for the card (one card is about 1 mm; add some for an envelope).
  2. Pick a seed number and a difficulty. Each seed is a different maze.
  3. Print the core standing up and the sleeve upside down, as exported.
  4. Put the card in, slide the sleeve over the core with its nub in the groove at the exit, and follow the maze down to the start at the bottom. To open, do the reverse.

Printing tips

  • The groove and nub need a clean print: if the nub catches, raise Fit clearance.
  • Print the sleeve and the core in different colors to make the maze easy to see.

Frequently asked questions

Is the maze always solvable?

Yes. It is a perfect maze: there is exactly one route between any two cells, so the start is always connected to the exit.

How do I close it?

Put the sleeve on at the exit (the groove that runs out at the top of the core) and work back down the route to the start cell. The tested route is the same one in reverse.

Is it secure?

No. It's a puzzle box for fun, not a lock.
