About this generator

Need a bolt in a length the shop does not have, or a plastic nut that will not scratch? Pick the size and print it.

How to use

  1. Pick the size and what to make: a full set or a single part.
  2. Set the bolt length and the head.
  3. Print a nut and bolt once and adjust Fit clearance until they turn smoothly.

Printing tips

  • Bolts print standing on their head, nuts and washers flat. No supports.
  • Use 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers for M4 to M8. Threads need fine layers.
  • Printed bolts are for light loads. They are weakest between the layers, so do not use them where a failure could hurt someone.
  • PETG and nylon give tougher threads than PLA.

Frequently asked questions

Do the printed parts fit metal hardware?

With the Standard thread shape, yes: a printed nut goes on a metal bolt of the same size and the other way round. Adjust Fit clearance for your printer.

The nut is too tight. What should I change?

Raise Fit clearance by 0.05 to 0.1 mm and print the nut again. The bolt does not need to change much.

Which thread pitch is used?

The standard coarse pitch for each size, for example 1.25 mm for M8 and 1.5 mm for M10.
