About this generator

Use an existing LED light only. Do not use a flame. Measure your LED tealight and its light point: every opening is cut along straight lines from that point, so from the LED each shape is an open passage through the wall. How sharp the shapes show on a wall depends on the LED and the distance and has not been tested.

How to use

  1. Measure the LED's diameter and the height of its light point above the table, and enter both.
  2. Choose the size, the pattern and the opening size.
  3. Print the shell and the base standing up, as exported.
  4. Put the LED in the ring on the base, switch it on, and lower the shell over the lip.

Printing tips

  • White or translucent filament glows; dark filament shows only the shapes.
  • The tops of the openings are short bridges; small openings print cleaner.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a real tealight?

No. Use an existing LED light only. Do not use a flame: PLA softens at about 60 °C and can catch fire.

Will it throw sharp shadows on the wall?

The openings point at the light, which helps, but a diffuse LED gives soft shapes. That depends on your LED and hasn't been tested.
