About this generator

Every morning, turn the wheels one number down. The tens disc in the middle and the units ring around it turn separately on one axle, and their digits sit side by side in the window, from 00 up to 29. It's set by hand: there is no clockwork.

How to use

  1. Choose the frame shape and size, and type the text under the window.
  2. Print the frame and both wheels face down, and the foot upright. For colored numbers, change filament after the first 0.8 mm. At the default size the layout is about 280 mm wide: on a smaller bed, move the wheels and the foot (each a part of its own) to a second plate in your slicer.
  3. Lay the ring on the back of the frame around the peg, then push the disc (knob outward) through the ring onto the peg until the barb clicks behind the flange.
  4. Stand the frame in the foot. Turn the disc by its knob and the ring by its notched edge, from behind.

Printing tips

  • The digits and text are engraved into the front faces, which print on the bed: a filament change at 0.8 mm makes them a second color.
  • If the wheels are hard to turn, raise Fit clearance; the detent bumps stand out a fixed 0.5 mm, so they keep working.

Frequently asked questions

Does it count down by itself?

No. It has no clockwork: you turn the wheels by hand every day.

Why does the tens wheel only go to 2?

The countdown starts at 24 (or up to 29 for an early start), so the tens disc has 0, 1 and 2.

Do the wheels stay on a number?

Small bumps on the back of the frame drop into a notch in each wheel at every number. How firmly they hold depends on your print; that has not been tested on a printer.
