Amazon's referral fee is taken of the total price, which includes shipping and gift wrap.
Handmade needs a Professional selling plan. Amazon waives its monthly fee after the first month for approved Handmade sellers, so it is not counted here.
Worked example
A $24.00 name sign with $6.00 shipping paid by the buyer. It costs $3.80 to make, $0.60 to pack and $5.20 to ship. It sells on Amazon Handmade in the US.

Common mistakes
- Leaving shipping out of the fee: the referral fee is taken of the shipping charge too.
- Counting the Professional plan fee on every sale. It is waived after the first month for approved Handmade sellers.
- Forgetting that Handmade only accepts items you make yourself. Check Amazon's rules for 3D printed items before you apply.
- Comparing only the percentage: Etsy adds a listing fee and a payment fee, while Amazon Handmade's referral fee is all there is.
